Hockey Exhibition Schedules Set

Sep 15, 2007 - The X-Men and X-Women hockey teams have set their pre-season exhibition schedules and begin play earlier this year due to a change in AUS regulations allowing winter sport teams to start playing exhibition games seven days after Labour Day.\r\n\r\nThe X-Men hockey squad, coached by Brad Peddle, open their exhibition season with a trio of home games hosted at various locations throughout the Highland region of Nova Scotia, in an effort to promote the interuniversity men�۪s game. On Friday, Sept. 21 the X-Men will host the Saint Mary�۪s Huskies at 7:00 pm at the Port Hawkesbury Civic Centre, Wednesday, Sept. 26 they will host last year�۪s AUS champion Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus at the New Glasgow Stadium at 7:00 pm, and on Friday, Sept. 28 they will host the UPEI Panthers at 7:00 pm at the Antigonish Arena. Tickets for all three games may be purchased at each individual arena.\r\n\r\nThe following weekend the X-Men will travel to Fredericton, NB where they will participate in the UNB Invitational tournament along with St. Thomas, Laurier and UNB. December 28-30 marks the dates for the second annual Charles V. Keating Cup, hosted by the X-Men at the Keating Millennium Centre. Joining StFX in tournament competition will be Saint Mary�۪s, Dalhousie and Guelph. The X-Men won the inaugural edition of the tournament last year. The AUS regular season starts for the X-Men on Friday, Oct. 12 when they travel to Dalhousie, with their home opener slated for Saturday, Oct. 13 at 7:00 pm against the Acadia Axemen.\r\n\r\nThe X-Women hockey team, coached by David Synishin, in his fifth year behind the helm, have a busy exhibition schedule ahead of them in preparation for their upcoming AUS season. They too start exhibition play in September, hosting three games at the Keating Millennium Centre auxiliary arena. On Saturday, Sept. 22 the St. Thomas Tommies will be in town for a 3:00 pm game, Saturday, Sept. 29 the X-Women will host the Saint Mary�۪s Huskies at 3:00 pm and the following day on Sunday, Sept. 30 they will host the UNB Varsity Reds, also at 3:00 pm. For all games donations will be collected at the door for local charities.\r\n\r\nThe X-Women will travel to Halifax on Saturday, Oct. 13 for an exhibition game against the Saint Mary�۪s Huskies, and will return home to host the UPEI Panthers on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 2:00 pm at the Keating Centre. StFX will continue their interlock exhibition games against QSSF opponents when McGill, Concordia and Ottawa make visits to the Keating Centre Nov. 16-18. They open their AUS regular season competition at home with games on Oct. 20 and 21 against UPEI and St. Thomas, respectively. Game times are at 2:00 pm each day.
