X-Women sweep Panthers in AUS basketball action

The StFX X-Women scored a road sweep over the UPEI Panthers in AUS women’s basketball action.
Saturday afternoon, Vanessa Pickard led the blue and white with 22 points, while Lia St. Pierre contributed 20 in a 74-66 win.
Kiley DeLong and Anne Kiberd with 11 and 10 points, respectively, also hit double digits for the X-Women.
Rebecca Sheehan led StFX, who led 47-31 at the half, with six rebounds and four assists.
Pickard also chipped in four assists to go with her team-leading five steals.
Jenna Jones led the Panthers with 13 points, while Amy Gough and Danielle MacDonald added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Friday night, in Charlottetown, the blue and white outscored the Panthers 21-12 in the fourth quarter to secure a 72-68 come-from-behind victory.
St. Pierre led the winners with 24 points, including three-for-three from beyond the arc. She added seven rebounds, six steals and one blocked shot.
Pickard added 16 points, five assists, four rebounds and three steals for the X-Women.
Post player Kolbi Roper, with eight rebounds, led StFX.
Gough led the Panthers with 14 points, while Nakita Newman chipped in a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. MacDonald, with 13, also hit double figures for the Panthers (5-13).
The X-Women (11-7) wrap up the regular season with home games versus the Dalhousie Tigers (Feb. 20) and Saint Mary’s Huskies (Feb. 23). Tip-off for both games is 6 p.m. at Oland Centre.
