Basketball X-Women split with Sea-Hawks
The StFX X-Women split a pair of weekend home games with the Memorial Sea-Hawks in AUS basketball action.
Sunday afternoon, the visitors scored an 80-75 win at Oland Centre.
Grace Fishbein, one of four players in double figures, led the Sea-Hawks with 19 points as she picked up player of the game honors. The senior guard added six rebounds and three steals in her 35 minutes on the court.
Sandra Amoah contributed a double-double – 15 points and 12 rebounds – in the victory. Emily Jameson and Megan Robinson chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Sea-Hawks.
Lia St. Pierre led the X-Women with 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and one steal. Kolbi Roper and Rebecca Sheehan hit double figures for the blue and white with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Roper led the X-Women, who were outrebounded 42-32, with seven boards.
The X-Women led 39-38 at halftime and 54-52 after three quarters, but were outscored 28-21 in the final ten minutes. The Sea-Hawks scored five three-pointers in the fourth quarter en route to the win.
With the loss, the X-Women fall to 7-6, while the Sea-Hawks improve to 6-8.
Saturday night, Subway player of the game Kiley DeLong led the X-Women with 20 points in an 84-78 victory. DeLong also contributed eight rebounds, two assists and one steal.
St. Pierre, with 15, Roper (12) and Lindsay Lessard (11) also scored in double figures for the blue and white. St. Pierre also chipped in nine rebounds, six steals and two assists in the win.
Ally Forsey led the Sea-Hawks with 16 points, along with 10 rebounds. Amoah also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
The X-Women (7-6) are currently for second place in the AUS conference with Acadia (10-2) as each team has 26 points, two up on third place Dalhousie (8-5) and 10 behind the first place undeated Saint Mary’s Huskies (13-0).
StFX returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 2 when they host the eighth place University of Prince Edward Island Panthers (2-10). Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Oland Centre. The Axewomen will be in town Thursday, Feb. 7 for a game worth four points in the standings.
