X-Women Basketball defeat Dalhousie.
The StFX X-Women basketball won a convincing game Saturday afternoon against the Dalhousie Tigers 74-48. Camesha McKenzie and Donisha Young lead the way for the blue and white with 17 and 14 points respectively. The X-Women forced Dalhousie to turn over the ball 35 times and had 22 assists as a team to Dal's 9.
The first quarter set the tone for the whole game as the X-Women were able to jump ahead, leading 18-4 just five minutes in. The defensive pressure displayed by X was too much for the Dalhousie guards to handle as they struggled to get the ball past half-court at times. Turnovers on the offensive end near the end of the quarter helped Dal stayed in the game.
The second quarter was slower than the first with both teams getting in foul trouble. In the last three minutes lead by Donisha Young who scored 13 first half points, the X-Women tore away holding a strong 43-23 lead.
The third quarter started strong for the X-Women as their aggressive trapping defense caused Dalhousie problems for all 10 minutes.
In the fourth with the game blown open both teams were able to mix up their lineups and give players different looks at different spots on the floor.
Overall it was a great game for the X-Women and a positive step forward towards the start of the regular season. X-Women take the court next November 7 at home against SMU.
