X-Women track competes at McGill
The StFX indoor track and field team travelled to Montreal this past weekend and participated in the country’s largest university meet at McGill University. Over 550 athletes competed in 36 events at the Tomlinson Fieldhouse at the 14th annual McGill Team Challenge.
\r\nThe X-Women sent 16 athletes consisting of sprinters, long distance runners, jumpers and throwers.
\r\nEugenia Renderos competed in both the 60m dash and 300m dash. She placed 24th overall in the 60m event (8.27) and did not qualify for the final round of 16, and was 16th in the 300m event with a time of 42.51. Five of her teammates also took part in the 300m race, and finished as follows: Janet MacLeod (27th, 44.21); Celeste Black (28th, 44.28); Katie Scannell (32nd, 44.39); Katie Barnstead (40th, 45.44) and Trina Kennedy (49th, 47.31). A total of 51 runners took part.
\r\nIn the women’s 600m race, Celeste Black was the top X finisher in 16th spot (1:40.92), followed by Paula MacDonald in 21st (1:42.25), Katie Scannell in 24th (1:43.80), Trina Kennedy in 25th (1:46.25) and Katie Barnstead in 28th (1:47.22).
\r\nPaula MacDonald cracked the 16th position in the women’s 1000m race, finishing in a time of 3:05.66. Bre Langley placed 22nd at 3:11.22.
\r\nIn the women’s 1500m event, six X-Women competed, including Kelly MacDonald who was the first X-Women across the line in 23rd position at 4:51.94. Amongst the 53 racers, Bre Langley placed 39th (5:06.93), Helena Fiore (5:12.36), Regan Flynn (5:12.53) and Erin MacNeil (5:15.45) were 41st through 43rd respectively, and Bree Bates was 49th (5:22.72).
\r\nWith the exception of Bre Langley, the same X runners competed in the women’s 3000m event with the following results: Kelly MacDonald (13th, 10:38.07); Helena Fiore (19th, 11:04.84); Erin MacNeil (20th, 11:14.44); Flynn Regan (23rd, 11:21.45) and Bree Bates (24th, 11:27.91).
\r\nThe X-Women 4x200m relay team consisting of Eugenia Renderos, Katie Scannell, Janet MacLeod and Celeste Black placed 9th amongst 14 teams in the relay event, finishing the race in a time of 1:47.12. Toronto won the race (1:43.07) followed by Queen’s (1:43.85) and Guelph (1:44.65).
\r\nIn the jumping events, X-Women Rebecca Bell competed in both the long jump and triple jump. She placed 23rd overall in the long jump, posting a jump of 4.29m and in the triple jump was 13th at 9.86m. Teammate Mairead Davidson also competed in the long jump and finished behind Bell in 24th spot with a jump of 4.25m.
\r\nChantal Paris was the lone X-Women competing in throwing events. In the shot put she placed 13th overall with a throw of 9.14m, and in the weight throw was 14th with a 5.12m throw.
\r\nNext on the schedule for the X-Women track team are two meets at Dalhousie University on Feb. 7 and Feb. 21.
