ANTIGONISH, NS - The U SPORTS No. 3 ranked STFX X-Men soccer team made it three wins in a row with a dominant 6-1 victory over the visiting UPEI Panthers on Friday night at STFX Stadium.
X got on the scoreboard first, with Myroslav Zastavnyy getting the last foot on a UPEI own goal in the 8th minute, just after UPEI goalie Javier Zaragoza made a diving save to stop a goal.
The Panthers drew even in the 30th minute, with Chase Bell snagging his own rebound and hitting one past Sam Diltz in the X net. The first half remained fast and physical, with X holding the advantage in scoring chances though the score remained even at half.
Zastavnyy put the X-Men up for good in the 52nd minute with a rocket shot to the corner after cutting to the middle.
Logan Reick added another from the penalty spot eight minutes later, followed by another UPEI own goal.
Luke Green made it 5-1 with minutes to play, with a nice touch from in close, getting his foot on the ball after an X-Men corner kick.
Freshman midfielder Gaby Menendez-Garcia scored his first regular seaosn goal and the sixth of the game for X as he connected from the penalty spot.
Green was named STFX Gabriel Pizza Player of the game for his work.
The X-Men return to action next Friday, when they visit the Panthers in Charlottetown.
