Halifax, NS – The U SPORTS No. 4 ranked STFX X-Men picked up their first win of the AUS regular season with a dominant 6-1 showing over the Saint Mary's Huskies Friday night on the road. Six different X-Men found the back of the net.
The X-Men were up 3-1 after the first half thanks to goals by Sam Barrowcliffe, Logan Rieck and Isaac VanWychen.
Barrowcliffe opened the scoring off a long, low shot in the 8th minute after taking a pass from Nico Goldsztein.
Saint Mary's Jalen Loague tied the game in the 21st minute but that would be the only time the Huskies found the back of the X net.
Veteran X midfielder Logan Rieck connected a pass from Noah MacIntyre seven minutes later to give STFX the lead and they never looked back. VanWychen pounded in a rebound in the 41st minute, rounding out the first half scoring.
The second half saw Max Cameron score unassisted 47 minutes in, capitalizing off a loose ball after an X-Men free kick.
Freshman midfielder John Kalinda sprinted through the SMU defense in the 80th minute, deeked goaltender Logan Briand and scored an easy marker for his first AUS goal, the fifth one for the X-Men on the night.
Kalinda then assisted on STFX's final goal by Kyle Cordeiro five minutes later.
Briand had four saves in the Huskies net, while Sam Diltz had three saves at the other end for the X-Men.
The White and Blue are back on the pitch Sunday afternoon at STFX Stadium when they will host the UNB REDS at 3:30 pm.
