STFX Athletics is encouraging individuals to sign up for the stem cell registry in support of Gail Stewart - STFX alumnus, local hockey mom and wife of our X-Men Hockey assistant coach Dave Stewart. She is currently in a fight against leukemia and needs a matching donor for a stem cell infusion.
Gail Stewart graduated from StFX in '97 and joined the X Athletics family when her husband, Dave, a former StFX X-Men, became an assistant coach of the X-Men in 2010. Gail has worked tirelessly within the hockey community since this time - volunteering with various teams over the years in multiple capacities and is always willing and ready to help. She has also served on the Antigonish Minor Hockey Association (AMHA) board for 8 years in the roles of registrar and treasurer.
On January 31, Gail was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML), an uncommon type of cancer that requires a stem cell infusion, which injects healthy stem cells from a donor. Gail, along with her loving family, Dave, and children, Zac (18), Leyton (16), Rhyah (15), and Meryk (11), urgently seeking a hero -- a matching stem cell donor to help save Gail's life.
