Chase Marchand of the U SPORTS silver medalist StFX X-Men is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending March 18, 2018.

Marchand and Dirk receive national hockey honours

Chase Marchand was named the U SPORTS goaltender of the year Wednesday night, along with being named as a U SPORTS 1st team All-Canadian. Teammate Jagger Dirk was also singled out as a U SPORTS 1st team All-Canadian on defense.

The StFX X-Men received multiple AUS accolades for thier performances on the ice during the 2017-18 season. Goaltender Chase Marchand was named the conference most valuable player and was an AUS first team all-star, while head coach Brad Peddle received the AUS Coach of the Year award. Defenseman Jagger Dirk and forward Michael Clarke were honored as AUS first team all-stars, defenseman Cole MacDonald was an AUS second team all-star and Santino Centorame was named to the AUS all-rookie team on defense.

Tyler Boland (St.John’s, NL), Oliver Leblanc (Quebec City, QC) and Kris Bennett (Brampton, ON) each had two points as the UNB Varsity Reds defeated the StFX X-Men 5-2 Friday night, clinching first place in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

The visiting Dalhousie Tigers (9-18-1) extended their winning streak to five games with a 7-3 upset over the U SPORTS No. 1 ranked StFX X-Men (21-2-4) Friday evening at the Charles V. Keating Centre. Seven different Tigers found the back of the X-Men net.

The U SPORTS No. 2 ranked StFX X-Men shut out the visiting Dalhousie Tigers 3-0 on a stormy Wednesday evening at the Charles V. Keating Centre. Despite play being postponed 15 minutes due to the inclement weather affecting the arrival of the games officials, both teams came ready to play a very active 60 minutes of hockey.
