X-Men to host Carleton in Keating Cup
ANTIGONISH, NS - The StFX X-Men and Carleton Ravens are preparing for the fourth annual Keating Cup Challenge. The Keating Cup began in 2006 and was named in honor of the late Charles V. Keating, alumnus and longtime friend of StFX University and strong supporter of StFX Athletics and the X-Men hockey program.
Mr. Keating passed away in November, 2005 and left a lasting legacy at StFX University, including the building in his name where the X-Men currently play all their home games.
The X-Men are the three-time defending Keating Cup champions and this year will play a two-game Keating Cup challenge against OUA East division opponents, the Carleton Ravens. The Ravens currently have a 9-8-2 record in third place in the OUA East, while the X-Men are 7-5-3 in fourth place in AUS competition.
The exhibition match up brings back former X-Man Fred Parker, the current head coach of the Carleton Ravens, back to his alma mater to face off against X-Men head coach Brad Peddle.
Game 1 will be played Saturday, January 2nd at 7:00 pm while Game 2 is slated for Sunday, January 3rd at 3:00 pm. Both games will be played at the StFX Keating Millennium Centre. Should each team win a game, the Keating Cup will be decided by a ten minute sudden death overtime period which will be played immediately following Game 2 on Sunday afternoon.
Tickets for the Keating Cup are currently on sale at the Keating Centre box office, contact 902-867-3304 for further information.
