X-Men Basketball Weekend Preview: February 4th & 5th vs. UNB
February 3, 2012
The CIS No. 6 ranked X-Men are on a road trip this weekend to take on the AUS seventh place UNB Varsity Reds on Friday evening, February 4th and Saturday afternoon, February 5th. This will be an important doubleheader for the X-Men as they aim to catch the UPEI Panthers for first place overall.
X-Men vs. Varsity Reds: The X-Men have already played two games against the Varsity Reds, winning big both times with scores of 92-5 and 87-68. StFX is looking to continue the momentum they built early this year against the Varsity Reds and bring it to Fredericton this weekend.
Key Players: Terry Thomas and Jeremy Dunn have been the offensive catalysts for the X-Men this season. Thomas is third in the league in scoring, averaging 20.4 points per game while Dunn is fifth in the league, averaging 18 points a game. Daniel Quirion and Alex DesRoches are the undisputed leaders of the Varsity Reds, sitting in 14th and 15th in average points scored respectively with 15.4 and 15.2.
Game Notes: It is crunch time in the AUS basketball season and UNB is looking to gain ground on Saint Mary’s for the sixth and final playoff spot. The X-Men had a tough loss last Sunday against Dalhousie so they will need to find a way to regroup and get back to their game plan. The X-Men boast one of the top offenses in the league and will be looking to bash UNB’s defense and score most of their points inside the paint.
