(Antigonish, NS) — StFX football head coach Gary Waterman is pleased to announce the appointment of Dave Van Den Heuvel as the new offensive coordinator for the X-Men program.
"I am extremely pleased to announce Dave Van Den Heuvel as our new offensive coordinator," comments X-Men head coach Gary Waterman. "Dave is a hardworking coach with a creative and innovative mind. His past experience with the StFX football program, Football Nova Scotia and Football Canada make him an ideal candidate to join the X-Men coaching staff on a full-time basis."
Coach Van Den Heuvel has been with the X-Men football program for the past five seasons, most recently serving as the assistant offensive coordinator, offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator for the past two years. Dave also has extensive experience with the Football Nova Scotia U18 program, lending his coaching talents to that squad for the past four summers. He was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach for the last two years and coached the O-line in 2016 and 2015. Last summer he got to travel to the International Bowl in Dallas as the offensive line coach for the Canadian U18 team. Van Den Heuvel was a member of the coaching staff for the U SPORTS East-West Bowl, coaching the running backs in 2018 and the offensive line in 2017.
"I am extremely excited to be continuing my career here at StFX University and taking my coaching experience to the next level," comments Van Den Heuvel. "I am thankful for the opportunity, and I am very much looking forward to working with the coaching staff and student-athletes moving forward as we strive for excellence with the X-Men football program."
A native of Antigonish, N.S., Coach Van Den Heuvel began his coaching career locally with the Dr. J. H. Gillis Regional high school team. He is a mechanical engineering graduate of Queen's University where he played offensive line with the Gaels for three seasons. Dave returned home to complete an Education degree at StFX University in 2011 and joined the X-Men football coaching staff in 2014.
Van Den Heuvel takes over the offensive coordinator duties from former coach Warren Goldie, beginning his coaching appointment as of February 1st.
