Getting to Know...Mete Konya

X-Men football defensive lineman Mete Konya is the latest athlete featured in our Getting to Know your X-Women and X-Men series throughout the summer. Mete recently completed his third year with the X-Men and is an Arts student from Osnabrueck, Germany.

Nickname:  World Peace, Big Fetta

My favorite moment to date as a StFX student-athlete is…?
Last years first round of playoffs against Acadia. My teammates and I played a great game and, literally, fought until the very last second. It was a magical moment. Also, beating SMU and Acadia last year for the first time in a couple years was something I was really proud of.

If I could be Prime Minister for one day I would…?
Enter the Kyoto Protocol and serve as an examplinary nation for others to follow. You know, change the world one country at a time.

My favorite Disney movie or character is…?
Aladdin (duh).

My biggest pet peeve is…?
When people talk behind each others backs. It takes away the trust, plus people could avoid this by simply talking to each other. Communication can change alot.

My dream job is…?
Secretary General of the United Nations. I like the idea of having an international community built while being a major part of it. But if that does not work out, I wanna be a background dancer for Usher.

One thing I love about StFX is…?
Where to start? The people, the buildings, the experience, the unbelievable feeling of community and being together or the fact that everyone, whether faculty or administration try their best to help students, I'd say something around those terms.

Tell us something interesting about your hometown?
If you have ever heard of the 30 year war, the peace of Westphalia was a treaty signed in both Osnabrück and Münster. And in Turkey, Giresun/Bulancak is very well known for hazelnut and the beatiful Black Sea coast. So I'm pretty blessed with what I have grown up around.
