Running back Craig Leger of the CIS No. 8-ranked Saint Mary’s Huskies is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 2nd, 2011. Leger, a fifth-year senior from Salmon River, N.S., was named the player of the game after picking up 102 yards rushing on 18 carries this past weekend in an 8-3 Homecoming victory over the Acadia Axemen. Craig, a two-time Atlantic conference all-star running back, currently leads the league in rushing yards with 377 yards through four games. Leger has also now moved into 12th spot on the AUS all-time rushing list with 2,181 career rushing yards.

StFX linebacker Ron Omara is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending October 2nd, 2011. Omara, a first-year student-athlete from Aylmer, Que., recorded 7.5 tackles, including one tackle for a loss and grabbed his first career interception, which he returned 16 yards, in Saturday’s 24-17 Homecoming win over the Mount Allison Mounties.

Quarterback and punter Kyle Graves of the Acadia Axemen is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week. Graves, a fourth-year player from Barrie, Ont., averaged over 39 yards per punt in Saturday’s close 8-3 road loss to the Saint Mary’s Huskies in Halifax. Kyle, who opened the scoring in the game with a 53-yard punt single on Acadia’s first drive, had two punts over 50 yards and had one punt downed inside the 20-yard line in the loss. He currently leads the AUS conference in punting with an average of 37.8 yards per punt.
