Muamba surpasses StFX career tackling mark
X-Men linebacker Henoc Muamba recently surpassed the StFX all-time tackling record. Muamba, a fourth year Information Systems student from Mississauga, ON has been a leader on the X-Men defense for the past few years. His teammate Tom Lynch, also a linebacker, is not too far behind in the tackling category as well.
Over the past four seasons with the X-Men, Henoc has accumulated 136.5 career tackles, surpassing the former StFX career record held by Mike McCullough at 135.5. McCullough’s tackles were recorded over a four year period when he played with the X-Men from 1999-2002. He is currently a member of the Saskatchewan Rough Riders of the CFL. It should be noted that the AUS officially began tracking career tackles in 1999, accurate defensive statistics are unavailable prior to that time period.
Tom Lynch, a fourth year Arts student from Granand, QC, currently has 128.0 career tackles over the past four seasons as an X-Men. He sits in a tie for ninth overall on the AUS career tackling list while Muamba is currently tied for fourth overall on the conference list. With two games remaining on the season and Muamba and Lynch averaging 8.4 and 5.3 tackles per game, respectively, both former CIS All-Canadians have a chance to move up the AUS career list to finish off their careers.
Matt Harding (2002-2005, 2007) from Mount Allison is the all-time AUS career tackling leader with 231.0, followed by Steve Faoro (2002-2006) of Acadia with 200.0 and Sebastien Roy (1999-2002) of Mount Allison with 173.0. Ben Halpern, in his fourth season with Mount Allison, is amongst the active players on the list and is currently tied with Muamba in fourth spot with 136.5 tackles. Callan Exeter, also of Mount Allison, is another active AUS player in the top ten with 128.5 tackles to date in eighth spot overall.
Muamba and Lynch’s X-Men take on the Acadia Axemen this Saturday afternoon at 2:00 pm at StFX Oland Stadium as they battle to stay alive for a berth in the 2010 AUS post-season. The game will be televised live on EastLink Television and will be webcast live via The Streaming Sports Network.
