Giannikopoulos, Hollohan & Alix Football Athletes of the Week
X-Men wide receiver Peter Giannikopoulos was named the StFX Football Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 4, 2009. Peter, a fourth year Science student from Everett, MA led all receivers in passing yards in the X-Men’s recent 60-7 win over Acadia. He caught 4 balls for a total of 101 yards and had a key touchdown to open the third quarter. The 64 yard touchdown play increased the X-Men lead at that point in the game to 26-7, en route to a 35 point third quarter and Homecoming victory. Peter currently leads the AUS in total receptions (26) and reception yards (93.0 yards/game).
\r\nX-Men defensive back Dylan Hollohan was named the StFX Football Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 4, 2009. Dylan, a second year Engineering student from Moncton, NB was the Player of the Game in the X-Men’s recent 60-7 win over Acadia. Dylan had 2 key interceptions in the game for StFX, including one he returned for a 35 yard touchdown in the first quarter. His other interception resulted in a 44 yard return. Dylan also forced an Acadia fumble that led to an ensuing touchdown drive on the X-Men’s next possession and he had 2 tackles in the game.
\r\nX-Men kicker Anthony Alix was named the StFX Football Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 4, 2009. Anthony, a first year Arts student from Mont-Tremblant, QC tallied 14 points and made some key game plays in the X-Men’s 60-7 Homecoming win over Acadia. Anthony kicked 4 field goals and had 2 rouges for his 14 point total. He also had 9 punts for a total of 301 yards and 7 kickoffs for 438 total yards. He is currently 2nd in the AUS in field goal percentage (71.4) and total field goals (10).
