Quarterback Steve Snyder of the #6 ranked StFX X-Men is the Atlantic University Sport Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 27th, 2009. Steve, a fifth year Arts student from London, ON completed 30-of-38 pass attempts in for a total of 396 passing yards and a touchdown in the X-Men’s 19-17 interlock win over the Concordia Stingers in Montreal this past weekend. Steve threw a 52-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter to give StFX a 9-0 lead, which they did not relinquish for the remainder of the game en route to the X-Men’s third straight win of the season. Steve is currently first in the Atlantic conference in passing average/game (347.7), total passing yards (1043), completions (75) and passing touchdowns (5).

StFX linebacker Henoc Muamba is the Atlantic University Sport Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 27th, 2009. Henoc, a third year Information Systems student from Mississauga, ON played a very strong game defensively for the X-Men in their 19-17 interlock road win over the Concordia Stingers. Muamba led all X-Men defenders with eight tackles in the game, all solo efforts, including a tackle for a loss of 10 yards on a quarterback sack. Despite missing a game earlier this year, Henoc is picking up where he left off last season as the 2008 AUS Defensive Player of the Year, leading all X-Men in tackles per game with an average of 7.2 through two games.

Gary Ross

Gary Ross of the Mount Allison Mounties is the is the Atlantic University Sport Special Teams Player of the Week for the week ending September 27th, 2009. Ross, a two-time CIS all-Canadian, had an outstanding game for the Mounties this past weekend, despite being defeated by the visiting McGill Redmen by a score of 49-27. Gary racked up a total of 265 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in the game, including a 90-yard punt return for a touchdown five minutes into the first quarter to even the score at 7-7. In total, Ross returned two punt returns for a total of 133 yards, a kickoff 25 yards and also contributed four receptions for 106 yards and another major on offense. Gary currently ranks second in AUS career punt return yardage (1,598) and second in AUS career kickoff return yardage (1,242 yards). He has also moved into eighth spot on the career receptions list (127) and tenth in career receiving yards (1,962 yards). Ross is a fourth year player from Windsor, ON.
