\r\nSep 28, 2008 - Before 3,000 fans at Sackville, N.B., Olivier Eddie’s field goal on the second series of an overtime shootout got Mount Allison its first win for interim head coach Kelly Jeffrey. MTA came out ahead 27-24.
\r\nStFX fumbled a snap on their chance to answer and the Mounties recovered to end the game.
\r\n"I think I’m going to get a cardiologist on retainer," joked the 36-year-old Jeffrey, in his first season after replacing Steve LaLonde.
\r\nHe said his team was at its best under pressure.
\r\n"We’ve talked a lot about executing and doing our assignments and when it was clutch our kids did that. We had some mistakes throughout the game, but when the game was on the line we made some big plays."
\r\nThe Mounties are 1-3 while the X-Men drop to 2-2. The teams split their season series.
\r\nStFX tailback James Green (27-214) made a bid to be the shootout hero for the second straight week for the X-Men, rumbling in on his team’s first chance with the ball in the extra session. But the Mounties came back to force a second round on a short touchdown toss from Kelly Hughes to Colin Weldon.
\r\nThe X-Men led 13-10 at the half. Mount A went up 17-13 before the X-Men scored four points in the fourth quarter to force the shootout.
\r\nHughes (19-36-267) had a four-yard touchdown run and Cam Mace a 35-yard touchdown catch during regulation for the Mounties. Akeem Foster had a 31-yard touchdown catch from Steve Snyder for the X-Men.
