Hockey X-Women shutout Huskies
The CIS ranked No. 4 X-Women hockey team improved to 7-2-0 on the season with a 5-0 shutout over the Saint Mary’s Huskies Sunday afternoon in Halifax. The X-Women outshot the Huskies by a convincing 38-12 margin en route to the win.
Erin Brophy opened the scoring for StFX with an unassisted goal at 11:53 of the first period. The X-Women then followed up with two second period goals to hold a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes of play. Leah Boucher scored at 9:54 with Brophy picking up an assist, while Jenna Pitts tallied the X-Women’s third goal shortly after at 11:04. Alex Normore assisted.
The X-Women opened up the third period on the penalty kill and forward Nicole Hansom thought she had netted a shorthanded goal but the official called it back. While still 3-0, veteran StFX defender Suzanne Fenerty scored on a shot from the point while on the power play. The goal came at 16:19 with Normore and Brittney Perkins assisting. Normore rounded out the scoring in the game with a later goal at 19:18 from Perkins and Janelle Parent.
Katie Greenway picked up the shutout victory in nets for the X-Women, turning aside 12 shots. Bria Sharkley took the loss for the Huskies who fall to 1-6-1 on the season.
Next on the schedule for the X-Women are a pair of home games on November 26th and 27th. Saturday afternoon StFX will host the Mount Allison Mounties (4-3-2), while the UPEI Panthers (5-4-0) will be at the Keating Centre on Sunday. Puck drop on both days is 2:00 pm.
