X ATHLETICS in the COMMUNITY
Big Brothers/Big Sisters - The department and several student-athletes support an initiative where StFX Athletics provides a Little Brother/Sister with a season pass for their favorite varsity sport. The athlete accompanies their Little to Subway before each game.
Cancer Awareness Nights - Various X-Women and X-Men teams host Cancer Awareness Nights annually in support of breast cancer and prostate cancer research. 50/50 tickets, prize tickets and donation boxes aid in the funds donated to each cancer awareness society and fans are encouraged to wear pink or light blue to the game in support of the cause.
Halloween Safe Crossing Program - each Halloween, student-athletes don their X jerseys, safety vests and flashlights and assist local children in their trick-or-treating travels at all the crosswalks in the town of Antigonish.
Kids in the Crowd - Local businesses purchases tickets to varsity home games for kids who otherwise may not be able to go. The kids are visited in seats by the athletes.
St. Martha's Regional Hospital Foundation - Athletes, coaches and athletics staff pour coffee and serve donuts annually on the Tim Hortons Cupful for Cure day, in support of St. Martha's Regional Hospital in Antigonish.
X Athletes for Charity Event - started in 2008, each April a student-led group organizes a multi-sport event which raises money for local charities. So far the Alzheimer's Society has benefited, as well as KidSport Nova Scotia. All proceeds raised at the annual event are deposited to the Early X-Cellence Fund in support of providing sporting opportunities for local youth who financially may not have been able to participate in organized sport.
X-Out Bullying - Over 50 student-athletes from every varsity sport and RCMP make a commitment to talk to all grade 4 and grade 5 students in Antigonish Town and County. We visit 6 schools and do over 10 presentation, each is approximately 90 minutes.
