Kehoe Golf Classic attracts 33 teams
The 19th annual Father Kehoe Golf Classic took place Friday afternoon, July 23rd at the Antigonish Golf & Country Club. Thirty-three teams and approximately 165 golfers participated in the five-person scramble, which honors the legacy of StFX alumnus and former athlete, coach and Athletic Director Father George Kehoe. David MacDonald’s team from Antigonish took home top low gross honors (57) as the tournament champions. Along with MacDonald, the team consisted of Don Woolaver, Nick MacInnis, Ben Hudson and Carson Way. After a three-way tie for second low gross honors (59) the MacDonald Chrysler team won by retrogression. Team members from the Antigonish squad included Jim Grant, Jack MacDonald, Duncan Chisholm, Phonse Gillis and Donnie Grant.
The recipients of the Irene McFarland Memorial trophy for the top low net score (42) in the tournament was Ron Lirette’s team from Halifax. Joining Lirette on the team were Matt Flynn, Derek Martin, Paul Fleming and Todd Sarty, Bob Hale’s team from New Glasgow took home second low net honors (44). Joining Hale were Brian Holmes, Allan Holmes, Peter MacLean and Wayne Woodacre. The tournament is an annual fundraiser for the StFX Department of Athletics and Recreation, In addition to the golf tournament, a dinner and auction was held at the StFX Bloomfield Centre on Thursday evening.
